This documentary is the next installment in Carlos Saura’s flamenco-inspired series, further enriching the genre of Spanish musical films. The film features unquestionable talents such as dancers Sara Baras, Antonio Canales, José Antonio Ruiz, Aída Gómez and Patrick de Bana, musicians Manolo Sanlúcar, Gerardo Núñez and Jorge Pardo, singer Enrique Morente and his daughter Estrella.
The film marks the first stage of an ambitious creative streak during which the director’s sole purpose was to discover the folk traditions of different locations and establish direct contact with them. The same purpose is also evident in his later works such as Fados (2007) and Zonda, folclore argentino (2015).
The documentary uses Isaac Albéniz’s music for Iberia to follow the rehearsals and stage shows of dancers, choreographers, musicians and singers each of whom are outstanding artists of the contemporary flamenco genre.
